Small Business Advocate
John R. Evans became the Commonwealth’s third Small Business Advocate March 25th, 2013, following his Pennsylvania Senate confirmation.
Evans represented the 5th Legislative District for six terms in the PA House of Representatives, which included portions of both Erie and Crawford Counties. During his tenure, Evans was the majority chairman of the House Game and Fisheries Committee, and served on the House Appropriations, Transportation, and Consumer Affairs committees. Evans is a recognized leader of the National Federation of Small Businesses (NFIB), winning the “Guardian of Small Business” award for his pro-business legislation.
Evans earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communications and a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies, both from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Before entering public office, Evans enjoyed over two decades of professional success as a news and sports reporter for Erie’s WJET-TV.
Evans is a member of PA's Tuition Account Program’s Advisory Board, and is an Adjunct Professor at Penn State University Harrisburg/Middletown. Evans has also served as Trustee at Edinboro University, and Board of Directors member for the Pennsylvania Special Olympics.
